Role Overview & Purpose

The Single Point of Access (SPA) Practitioner provides responsive, person-centered support for children, young people (CYP), and families across Swindon. Operating within a SPA model, the role conducts telephone consultations, triages referrals, assesses presenting needs, and provides guidance or signposting to appropriate mental health and wellbeing pathways (such as BE U or local services).

  • Referral Triage & Assessment: Screen and triage incoming referrals, conduct risk assessments, perform safety calls, and execute decision-making centered around positive risk taking.
  • Caseload Management & Family Support: Manage a small active caseload, offering tailored evidence-based/CBT-informed support and practical resources to parents and caregivers.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside schools, healthcare professionals, social services, and community organizations to ensure coordinated care.
  • Quality & Safeguarding: Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, track outcomes for vulnerable or marginalized groups, accurately document case notes, and participate in community outreach.
  • Service Requirements: Participate in an on-call rota (including evenings and weekends) to support service needs.
Key Requirements
  • Experience: Background in phone-based assessments/support within health, education, or social care, alongside experience managing a caseload delivering evidence-based or CBT-informed interventions.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Understanding of CYP emotional wellbeing needs, risk management, and the local mental health support landscape.
  • Communication & Technical Skills: Strong active listening, empathetic communication, cultural competency, and proficiency with client management systems and Microsoft Office.
