How we handle personal information

Last updated: 13 July 2026

1. Introduction

SeekMe UK Ltd operates the SeekMe marketplace. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, protect and retain personal information when you browse SeekMe, create an account, post or respond to listings, buy paid services, submit tickets, receive emails or interact with safety, fraud prevention and support processes.

2. Information we collect

We may collect identity data, contact data, account login data, advertiser status, business details, listing content, photos, logos, documents you upload, messages, favourites, saved searches, order details, payment and invoice references, support ticket correspondence, verification evidence, fraud and safety signals, device data, log data, IP address, browser and operating system data, cookie identifiers, approximate location and information about how you use the website.

2.1 Information you provide directly

You provide information directly when you register, update your account, post or edit a listing, upload photos or documents, send an enquiry, reply to a message, buy a paid service, request a refund, open a ticket, respond to verification checks or contact us through a form.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you use SeekMe, we may automatically collect technical and usage information, including IP address, device identifiers, browser type, pages viewed, searches, clicks, listing interactions, referring pages, session information, cookie identifiers and security logs. This helps us operate the service, measure performance, understand usage and protect the marketplace.

2.3 Information from service providers and third parties

We may receive limited information from payment providers, email delivery providers, analytics tools, advertising tools, fraud prevention tools, hosting providers, support systems, regulators, law enforcement, business partners or other users where this is needed to operate the service, process orders, deliver emails, measure performance, investigate abuse or comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal basis for processing

Depending on the activity, we process information because it is necessary to provide the service or perform a contract, because we have a legitimate interest in operating, improving and protecting SeekMe, because we must comply with legal obligations, or because you have given consent, for example for certain cookies, analytics, advertising or marketing choices.

4. How we use your information

We use information to create and manage accounts, publish and manage listings, connect users, process orders, provide customer support, send service notices, personalise and improve the website, measure performance, prevent spam and fraud, protect users, enforce our terms and comply with legal obligations.

4.1 Orders, tickets and verification

Where you buy a paid service, request a refund, appeal a moderation decision, report abuse or respond to a verification request, we may use the information in the order, advert, account and support ticket to assess the request, ask follow-up questions, decide what action to take, keep an audit trail and communicate the outcome.

4.2 Safety, fraud and scoring

Checks may be carried out manually and may include software or AI-assisted scoring of listings, account activity, enquiry patterns, device or network signals and other safety indicators, especially for property, jobs and vehicles. Scores or flags are intended to support review and are not treated as automatic proof of wrongdoing.

4.3 Messages and public listings

Listings may be visible publicly and may include contact or business details you choose to publish. We do not routinely read private messages by hand, but automated systems may use message-related signals, metadata and abuse reports to detect spam, fraud or safety risks. Messages and support requests may be reviewed where needed to provide support, investigate abuse, enforce terms, comply with law or protect users.

5. Cookies, analytics and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the website working, remember settings, improve performance, understand usage, support security and, where enabled, deliver or measure advertising. This may include Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google AdSense or similar tools. Non-essential analytics or advertising cookies may depend on consent, browser settings or cookie choices.

6. Email and service communications

We may send service emails such as account notices, login or security messages, listing updates, order confirmations, invoices, support replies, moderation notices and ticket updates. We may use Mailgun or another email delivery provider to send, route, monitor and improve delivery of these emails. Email delivery providers may process email address, message metadata, delivery status, bounce, open or click information where this is needed for delivery, security, troubleshooting and compliance.

7. Marketing communications

Where permitted, we may send marketing, product updates, listing tips or promotional communications. You can unsubscribe or change preferences where a marketing communication allows it. Service, security, billing, moderation and legal notices may still be sent where needed to provide the service or protect the marketplace.

8. Sharing information

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers that help run SeekMe, including hosting, payment, email delivery, analytics, advertising, security, support, fraud prevention and professional adviser services. We may also share information with regulators, authorities, courts, law enforcement or other users where required or permitted by law, needed for marketplace communication or necessary to protect users and the service.

8.1 Google services

Where enabled, Google Analytics may help us understand website usage and performance; Google Ads may help us measure or deliver advertising; and Google AdSense may help show adverts and measure advertising performance. Google may use cookies or similar technologies for analytics, advertising measurement, ad personalisation, frequency capping and fraud prevention depending on configuration, consent and user settings.

8.2 Mailgun

Where enabled, Mailgun may process email-related data for sending and managing transactional or service emails. This can include recipient email address, sender details, message headers, delivery logs, bounces, spam complaints, suppression lists and engagement or diagnostic data needed to deliver and troubleshoot email.

9. International transfers

Some service providers, including Google, Mailgun or other infrastructure providers, may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we use appropriate safeguards where required by data protection law, such as contractual protections or approved transfer mechanisms.

10. Data security

We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. No online service can guarantee complete security, so you should also protect your login details and be careful about what you publish in listings or messages.

11. Retention and deletion

We keep information for as long as needed for the service, account management, order records, legal, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute, support ticket, verification and security purposes. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and the reason it is held. Some information may remain in backups or records where deletion is not immediately possible or where retention is required or permitted by law.

12. Your rights and choices

You can update account information, edit or remove listings and contact us about access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, portability, consent withdrawal or automated decision-making concerns. Some rights are not absolute and some information may need to be retained for legal, security, fraud prevention, dispute, accounting or marketplace integrity reasons.

13. Contact and complaints

Privacy questions and data requests should be sent through the Support Ticket page so the request can be created and tracked. You may also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you believe your data protection rights have not been handled properly.

14. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the service, providers, cookies, data uses, legal requirements or business operations. Material changes may be notified through the website, account notices or other appropriate channels.
